October 2016 Newsletter

Welcome to the 2016-2017 Snowmobile Season – it is hard to believe, but it is that time of year again to start thinking about fun in the cold and snow!

Membership Form – Included with this mailing is your 2016-2017 Membership form, as in years past Family Memberships are $20 and Business Sponsors are $50.  We look forward to receiving your application.  Remember those working hard to make our trail system one of the best are all Volunteers.

Elections Announcement – Three board seats Mike Brown, Tom Everly, and 1 open seat will be up for election at the General Membership meeting December 8, 2016.  If, you would like to nominate someone for any of these seats mail that information to AVSA, PO Box 1176, Grayling, MI 49738 or in person prior to the December 8, 2016 General Membership Meeting.

2015-2016 Season Stats –

Miles Groomed – 3,938

Hours Grooming – 720

Average Speed Grooming – 5.46 mph

Fuel Cost – $6,754.89

Trail maintenance – Trail brushing will begin mid-October with signing to follow shortly afterwards.

Trail 487 CLOSED – the trail ran through several hundred acers of land east of I-75 north of 4 Mile Rd to Barker Lake RD.  The DNR sold the land for development to two entities Kirkland Community College and Arauco, a lumber processing company based in Chile.  At this time, the future of Trail 489 is uncertain.

Building Project – On hold

Pre-season maintenance – Now is the time for each of us to start thinking about pre-season maintenance of our snowmobiles and the hauling equipment.  A little time spent now in preparing for this coming season can save hours of frustration on the way to our favorite trails and on the trails.

Snowmobile USA Show and Sale – Novi, MI November 4-6, 2016 held at the Suburban Collection Showplace

General Membership Meetings– the first meeting of the season is scheduled for October 6, 2016.  Meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month beginning in October running through April at the Ramada Inn of Grayling starting at 7: pm.  AVSA meetings are open to anyone who wishes to attend.

About the AuSable Valley Snowmobile Association

The AuSable Valley Snowmobile Association is composed of volunteers working to promote safe snowmobiling in the Grayling area. Membership is composed of both local residents and others who travel to the Grayling area to ride on the hundreds of miles of local trails.
