Trail Conditions 2/13

February 13, 2018 By AuSable Valley Snowmobile Association

Greetings Sledders,

Very quickly, those that were in and we had a chance to talk to said they had better than expected rides. We obviously like to hear pleasantly surprised as opposed to bitterly disappointed.

Ice seems to be the general consistent topic and it will continue to be an issue until we get real snow depths or until we come to the end of this dismal season that we’ve all experienced.

We got an additional 3″ over the weekend and it’s just in time for the next thaw which begins tomorrow and will last until Thursday with Wednesday being the critical day with temps in the 40’s and the Sun will be the kicker. Friday looks to be cold and we go right back into thaw mode on Saturday.

It’s anybody’s guess how we will end up especially with the Sun getting into the mix.

I groomed Saturday and the air temp was around 20 but the Sun was out and it didn’t take long before the areas on the trail that were dirty turned into mush.

Unfortunately this could be the beginning of the second ending which really hurts because the beginning of the first ending back on Jan 7th is still fresh on our minds Or something like that.

The trails continue to be fair in my mind because we still don’t have a hard pack base because of the dry snow and lots of ice underneath.

Ride Often (or in this case soon) and Please Be Safe,

Keith, Sandy and The Girls of Fay’s Motel Grayling
